SMART Mini Cellular Towers

WMH has teamed with Modus Corporation to assist with the installation of SMART Mini Cellular Towers to existing streetlights in various locations in the Bay Area. The Cellular Pole improvements tie into the existing streetlighting circuit and have the capability to house four radios that are used to improve the wireless broadband hub for a single carrier. Modus Cellular Poles use the existing streetlighting circuit and utilize available power inherent in the streetlighting circuit and uses a wireless energy meter to monitor and report power consumption, which separates streetlight power from carrier radio power. This project is a step towards creating a connected smart city.

WMH led tasks included data gathering, conceptual planning, construction documents, and construction support. WMH assisted in the coordination efforts between Modus, Telecommunication Carriers, and city agencies to secure construction permits and ensuring seamless installation of the hardware while avoiding adverse impacts to existing infrastructure. Modus Cellular Poles have been implemented throughout the Bay Area in San Jose, Cupertino, Daly City, South San Francisco, and Vallejo, CA.
