Yerba Buena Island Composite Plan and I-80 / Southgate Road Realignment

WMH coordinated and developed the overall Yerba Buena Island (YBI) Composite Plan to enable multiple transportation agencies and the US Coast Guard achieve consensus of a phased implementation plan for numerous individual projects that comprise all of the YBI improvements. This plan incorporated interchange improvements, bicycle/pedestrian facilities, tolling, roadway realignment/widening, and US Coast Guard access. Project stakeholders included BATA/MTC, Caltrans, SFCTA, TIDA, TIMMA, and the US Coast Guard.

As part of the master planning effort, WMH performed the alternative development for the complicated I-80 Southgate interchange. The project is situated between the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (SFOBB), EB I-80 on-ramp to the SFOBB, steep hillside above and a Vista Point below. The project includes several retaining walls, two bridge structures, EB I-80 off-ramp from SFOBB, bicycle/pedestrian connections, and roadway realignment.
