A new Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility (CVEF) was constructed to replace the existing outdated facility which was causing delays on the I-80 due to its inefficiencies. The new facility is located in Fairfield and comprises of a completely new site which includes 7 inspection bays; 'weight-in-motion scales'; new extended off-ramp from I-80; braided on-ramps to I-80 and Route 12; 2 bridges and retaining walls; and, state of the art sorting technology.
WMH provided technical leadership, project coordination, and management of a multi-disciplinary team to provide Plans, Specifications and Estimates for the client. WMH oversaw the development of a separate technology contract for coordination of camera, weight and visual sorting of vehicles.
The project received the Calfornia Transportation Foundation award for 'Safety Project of the Year', and was awarded the 'Best of ITS America'.
